How does social media affect  development and society?

There are a multitude of studies that have found alarming links between social media and human overall health. Depression, loneliness, self-harm, and suicidal thought are some of the many risks that have been linked to human use of social media. Social media can make humans feel inadequate about their current life or appearance.

How can social media produce positive mental health outcomes?

  • Relieving Social Isolation

  • Inspiring Healthy Lifestyle Changes

  • Aiding Medical Research

  • Facilitating Social Support and Interventions

  • Strengthening Existing Relationships

  • Providing Teens with Development Opportunities

Can social media use lead to addiction?

Social media has developmental effects on the health of children, teens, and adults.   Too much social media also has a direct link to inactivity and obesity. Social media addictions cause users to lose interest in activities they once loved. Inactivity often results in unhealthy weight gain and puts users at risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
